Workers at York University have had their wage increases capped at only 1% per year for three years due to the Ford government’s Bill 124. This has occured at a time when the cost of living has been soaring. The courts have struck down the unjust law that capped workers wages and so now we are calling on the university to give workers a fair wage increase that takes into account the high level of inflation.

On September 20, 2023, hundreds of staff, faculty, teaching assistants and students held a rally and marched across campus to call on the university to renegotiate wages now. This was a strong showing of solidarity between many unions on campus, and sent a strong message that wages need to be increased now. The university has agreed to meet with the unions to discuss the issue, however they have not yet made a commitment to increases wages now.
