- Responsible for the general management and direction, subject to the authority of the Executive Board and the constitution, of the business and affairs of the Union
- Oversees grievance process and is authorized to bind the union in settlements in mediation or arbitration
- Liaises with the Union’s legal counsel for grievances and other matters
- Manages admin staff in the YUSA Office
- Is a full member of the bargaining committee and acts as chief negotiator in bargaining with the employer
- Oversees the following committees: Health and Safety, Grievance Committee, Bargaining
- Provides regular training and direction to Stewards
- Is an ex-officio member of all other union committees
- Acts as representative to the following bodies: Senate, Health and Safety Executive Council, Pension Board of Trustees, Joint Joint Evaluation Committee, Joint Work Accommodation Committee, Disability Support Management Committee
- Represents members at meetings with management (11.01, 7.07, AMP, Work Accommodation, Grievance Step 2 meetings, mediations and arbitrations)
- Discusses issues of concern to the membership to management in regularly scheduled Labour/Management Committee meetings
