The employer has recently produced a campus wide communique with respect to H1N1 Pandemic Planning. The York University Staff Association was not consulted prior to this communique being sent out and it is my understanding that none of the unions on campus were consulted.
The York University Staff Association has provisions in article 19 that govern the use of sick time and these provisions are still applicable. In the event that you receive a phone call from your manager inquiring to the nature of your illness, you are not obligated to provide this
information. It is entirely up to you, how much information you provide to your manager with respect to the nature of your illness, or the symptoms.
If there are developments on this issue in the coming weeks/months, we will update the membership as new information and/or requirements as set by the public health authorities.
As always, please take all of the necessary precautions and apply basic hygiene principles to protect your health and that of your family. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at joaniec@yorku.ca.
