YUSA Bursaries
There are two bursary programs offered to the dependants of YUSA members each year: the CCU’s Madeleine Parent and John St. Amand Bursary, and YUSA’s Gabriele Hardt, Jim Streb, Celia Hart and Lynn Taylor bursaries. Apply for each of them below.

YUSA Annual Bursary
YUSA will be awarding four (4) – $500 bursaries to qualified dependants of YUSA members. The bursaries have now been named in honour of past members that put much effort in supporting the union to where it is today.
For the purpose of the bursary, dependants are defined as dependent children and people under legal guardianship of the member, or their spouses who are enrolled in full-time continuing post-secondary education. Dependants must be listed on your York benefits to qualify.
Only one bursary, per family, per year, will be awarded. Proof of full-time studies will be required before the bursary will be issued. Open to dependants of all current members, in good standing with YUSA.
Bursary applications will re-open in September 2026.

CCU Madeleine Parent and John St. Amand Bursary Application
The Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU) provides annual bursaries of $1,000 for dependent children of members of unions belonging to the CCU for the purpose of furthering their post-secondary education. The bursaries are named after CCU founder Madeleine Parent, and CCU organizer John St. Amand.
The successful applicants will then be notified by email shortly after and asked to provide the following: Proof of post-secondary enrolment (an official transcript, or a confirmation of enrolment letter issued by the Registrar), and a 500-1000 word essay on the topic “What Does Unionism Mean to Me?”
The award will be paid out shortly after the requested information has been received. ONLY the successful applicants are required to submit the documentation listed above. Do not submit with the application. If not received on or before the posted deadline, alternate recipients will be selected.
Bursary applications will re-open in August 2026.
