The YusApuY Bargaining Team met with the Employer on November 26th, without the Conciliator, and on December 3rd with the Conciliator. The good news is that the Employer has withdrawn its concessions around Article 17 and 19. The bad news is that the Employer is asking us to accept concessions in regards to our benefits as well as allowing interns to do our work. These concessions, along with the ones in regard to Article 14, are unacceptable to the YusApuY Bargaining Team.
On December 3rd the Employer presented the YusApuY Bargaining Team with what they have referred to as a Comprehensive Offer of Settlement. This settlement offer contains the concessions which we mentioned above and make it impossible to accept.
The YusApuY Bargaining Team took the Employer’s Comprehensive Offer of Settlement to the YusApuY Executive Board on December 4th and we were instructed by the Executive Board to make the Employer a counter proposal which we have done. We are now waiting to hear back from the Employer. Even though the Winter Break is just around the corner, the YusApuY Bargaining Team, as we have done since mid-June when bargaining began, is prepared to meet with the Employer at any time.
Our stated goal has always been to conclude these negotiations as soon as possible with a contract which we can find acceptable. Thank you for the support which we have received since mid-June and continue to receive.
As we stated in our previous communiques, even though our current Collective Agreement expired on July 31, 2014, it remains in effect as long as the Parties remain at the bargaining table. The parties are still at the bargaining table.
You can support your Bargaining Committee by showing solidarity throughout the university and at your workstation by prominently displaying your YusApuY Collective Agreement, Calendars, Hats, Scarves, and T Shirts, etc.
