Unit 2 members perform similar work to Unit 1 members, but are paid less per hour and have no benefits, paid sick days, or job security.

Where wages stand now

The Unit 2 starting rate is just above minimum wage. In fact, Unit 2 wages currently start at only 13 cents an hour above Ontario’s minimum wage.

What the employer is proposing

The university is proposing wage increases below what other employee groups have negotiated across campus.

  • Employer proposal (Unit 2): 1.25%, 1%, 1%
  • Increases received by others (faculty, staff, TAs): 3.1%, 2.85%, 2.85%

These proposed increases are well below inflation and do not reflect the cost of living in the Greater Toronto Area.

What we’re fighting for

YUSA is fighting for wage increases that match or exceed what other university employee groups have received — so Unit 2 members aren’t left behind doing essential work for near-minimum-wage pay.
