The York University Staff Association is deeply saddened by the sudden and untimely passing of Confederation of Canadian Unions (CCU) Vice President Chris McCann, who died suddenly at the young age of 52.
It is with a heavy heart that I write this remembrance. Chris was a life long advocate for social justice and a dedicated labour activist. He was recently elected President of the Association of Employees Supporting Education Services (AESES) that represents workers at the University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg and St. Andrew’s College. Some of you may have had the pleasure of meeting Chris at the CCU Convention in Halifax last October.
Chris leaves behind his partner of 25 years, Karen, and their three children, Sarah, Natalie and Calvin. We extend our support and condolences to his family and to our colleagues, sisters and brothers who had the privilege to have known such a great person.
Chris was a great friend and comrade to the labour community and he will be greatly missed.
