The York University Staff Association recently acclaimed Giulio Malfatti as its president for 2014.
Giulio has decades of study, work and union experience at York University, and has a superb understanding of York’s culture and community.
Giulio first graduated from York University in political science and has worked here for 23 years. He has served the YUSA membership first as a steward, then as a long-time bargaining committee member and pension trustee.
He also served as YUSA 1st Vice President since 2002, so his move into the position of President was a natural one that will compliment much of the successful work he did as Vice President.
Giulio believes that continuing education is vital to understanding the new challenges of the modern world, and has completed certificate programs at York University in both conflict dispute resolution and advanced conflict dispute resolution.
He also has decades of experience in negotiations and grievance arbitration, and played an instrumental role in the recent Pay Equity Agreement for YUSA Unit 2 members, as well as the important pension discussions with the All Unions Committee and York University.
New leadership always brings a fresh sense of purpose and renewal to an organization, and the York University Staff Association executive for 2014 includes decades of combined knowledge and experience with fresh faces that will provide new ideas and ways of doing things inside the union.
Giulio is looking forward to a very successful 2014 for YUSA and its members.
