Dear Friends,
With the YUSA Annual General Meeting scheduled for October 30, 2013, we are all preparing our reports and looking forward to connecting with the membership.
It is difficult to believe I have served the membership as President for 13 consecutive terms. It is only fitting that I will announce I will not be seeking re-election in 2014.
I have been thinking about this transition for some time, and many of you will recall that at the 2012 AGM, I was hesitant to accept the nomination. This work is hard, but it is so rewarding. I never imagined, back in October 2000, that I would still be serving the membership as President in 2013. That wasn’t my original intention. And each year, when I think it is time to step aside and welcome a new President, the work and the membership have kept me going.
But as they say: “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
I am very grateful for the experiences I have had in this role, and for the members I have served both directly and indirectly. There are more victories than I can count and some very grueling experiences I will never forget. All of the time spent doing this work has been a tremendous adventure and opportunity.

[/blockquote] The greatest gift about being YUSA’s President is that you are part of the community. Our union, this great organization formed in 1975, has inspired so many people to step forward and carry on the necessary work.I am certain that on October 30, 2013, people will step forward and continue those achievements.
This work will always be necessary and important, and those who come forth will continue that legacy in this great organization – our York University Staff Association.
